1:39 p.m. Life Line Hospital celebrates opening
The $30 million Life Line Hospital in Wintersville, which includes a 32-bed long term acute care unit as well as a sleep lab and state of the art diagnostics equipment including a PET scanner, an MRI and a 64-slice CT scanner, celebrated its opening on Saturday afternoon. The hospital is to be able to accept patients next month, officials said. Life Line represents a wholly private investment, with no government money or tax breaks, by 48 physicians from across the region representing most medical specialties. Leading the ribbon cutting were Dr. Satbir Singh and Dr. Amar Khurana, center, who are among the investing doctors, who work as a team without claiming one of them to be the head of the project. Life Line took about two years to come to fruition and is a paperless, electronic record hospital.

What Constitutes "Making It"?

One stereotype I battled all through my college years in Steub was that I never "Got Out" or "Moved On".... It's very common for recent high school grads who go off to school to put a classification on the kids who stay local and go to Franny, JCC, Nursing school, and so on... that they stuck around and are doing "nothing" in Steubenville. Apparently the definition of "Making it" is that you moved out at 18 to a big city, state school, or just far away and Steubenville is not the city of champions, but rather the city of losers now. I started out at OU.. nice school, but they really weren't offering me much in terms of internships. I looked at Franny, and they were offering me smaller classes, internships, a trip to live in Austria and so on and so on. No brainer! Oh yeah, and it was about $6,000 a year cheaper.

Winter facts from ODOT

Somehow, it was my year to take the annual photograph of the Ohio Department of Transportation getting its Jefferson County fleet ready for winter this year. It was cold and raining outside and the weatherfolk were having a potential snow-stroke over the possibility of a little dusting in the Laurel Highlands east of Pittsburgh. ODOT gave us an interesting fact sheet filled with numbers to ponder: 457 - The number of lane miles it plows and maintains in Jefferson County. 141 - The number of bridges on state routes in Jefferson County. (And remember, watch for ICE on bridge, as the signs say. Bridges freeze first.) 16 - The number of trucks taking care of those 457 lane miles and 141 bridges on state routes in Jefferson County. 7,317 - The average number of tons of salt used by ODOT in a typical Jefferson County winter. $1,029,426 - The amount spent on keeping us able to travel on those 457 miles and 141 bridges last winter in Jefferson County.

New addition to my family

No, my wife is not pregnant. I know a lot of people are wishing that would be the case, but NO! My wife and I adopted a Chihuahua Terrier mix from a animal rescue company in New Philly. He is about 10 weeks and is under 2lbs. He is a heart breaker so we named him Romeo. Romeo loves chew sticks and eating. We have to put his food up because he will eat until everything is gone. He likes to lick in ears, on the lips and the eyes. Romeo loves his new sister Lily but she is less thrilled. Lily likes to be protective over him but if he gets in her face she does not have a problem pinning him to the floor. They often trade chew toys. Lily softens one up and then lets Romeo take over and she then takes over on his. The new addition to the family has its downfalls. Lily sleeps in the bed with us so it is only fair that Romeo be able to do so as well. Romeo likes to get right up under your skin to keep warm at night so I have trouble sleeping because I am scared to roll over on hi.
